Low cost airline EasyJet has announced that it is going to start introducing flights from London to Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion International Airport. The airline also announced that prices will start from as low as £100 with flights starting in November 2009.
This route is now generally serviced by major airlines such as BMI, British Airways and El Al who were surprised about the announcement and cast doubts on whether the fare would be viable. The Chief Executive of BMI Israel, Sebastian Weinstein, said he thought the £100 fare was just meant as an attraction for customers and suggested that Easyjet would create add-ons such as services for luggage, food and preferential seating. At the moment BMI’s economy class flight starts at 465 dollars which includes everything. He also added that there would only be a few seats on the flight sold at this minimum price and that competition from other airlines would determine the true price.
British Airways also commented that Easyjet’s prices would probably only be offered for off-season flights.
Adding to this EasyJet plan to fly more than the London route and will also be offering cheap airline fares from Israel to Swizterland – which itself is of interest to Israeli’s. Israel and Switzerland signed a new aviation agreement in June 2009, as before only Swiss and El Al regularly have scheduled flights between these countries. Opening up for Easyjet to fly between these two countries is allowed as Easyjet is already registered and operates in Switzerland.
Don’t Forget when using Easy Jet services from London airports, to book your luton airport parking before to get a cheaper rate.
