Golf Tourism to Cyprus due to Cheap Flights

Cypriot Government plans to build up to 14 new Golf Courses in Cyprus to expand and develops its potential as a Golf venue due to the cheaper flights from the UK. A planned Golf course is planned to be constructed at Ayia Napa on the East coast of Cyprus will undoubtedly boost the area in terms of tourism and the local economy.

Cyprus offers a very hospitable climate for Golf especially during the winter months compared to northern European destinations. The new Golf course is a joint venture between 36 hoteliers and the municipality, the Ayia Napa Golf project includes a full 18 hole competition Golf course, club house, management offices and store rooms, there are no holiday accommodation currently planned as the hoteliers intend to promote their accommodation and complimentary shuttle service to the course.

Investors are currently being sought to help fund the project which is hopefully to start in late 2010. The Golf course is expected to attract high net worth golfers and golf tourists looking for a demanding course all year round and high quality accommodation. This will even out the seasonal fluctuations in tourism to the area and provide a more consistent and stable economy
Cyprus is a perfect location to become a Golf venue with sufficient land, climate and choice of accommodation. Cheaper flights from UK airports will provide the traffic and the opportunity for Golf travelers to hopefully flock to Cyprus as a new golf venue. The demand for Golf tourism is always high and Golfers are traditional big spenders and will make bookings for the better quality packages and be prepared to spend more whilst on their Golf holiday as opposed to the typical cash strapped family package industry.

Cyprus has a good airport and infrastructure with Paphos on the west and Lanaca serving the east of the island with cheap flights to both from Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham to name a few. It is reported that the Cypriot government plan to build up to 14 golf courses on the island there are currently only 3 courses.

Great news for Golfers with over 4 million registered in European golf clubs with more choice to come and different golf venues Cyprus could become one of more popular venues.
