Heathrow airport now boasts five terminals, serving locations around the globe. Heathrow is the busiest airport for international passenger transport in the world, the scale of Heathrow can be more than a little intimidating. However, the facilities and design of the buildings make it an easily usable airport as well as a busy one. Business and family transport are both facilitated to a high standard in terms of efficiency and ease of use.
One of the first things you’ll need to do if you’re travelling to Heathrow, either to depart on a flight or to meet someone who’s arriving, is check which terminal you need. Each of the terminals are accessed slightly differently, whether you’re getting to/ from them by car or by public transport, so it’s best to know where you’re going beforehand so check online and with your ticket to make sure you will be going to the correct Terminal as they are not that close together and travelling between them can take 30 to 45 minutes or upto an hour if traffic is congested. Remember incoming flights can sometimes be diverted to different terminals so dont assume everything is as planned it pays to check online to make sure you will be at the correct terminal to meet your friends and loved ones.
Domestic flights within the UK and Ireland are handled within Terminal 1, while European and long haul flights go through all of the other terminals. Terminal 5 is used only by British Airways. Car parking at all terminals if you are departing is best guranteed if you pre-book your space to guarantee and secure a confirmed cost for the duration of your trip.
You can access information about both arrivals and departures on the many screens within the airport or online. Given its scale and popularity, Heathrow can be a confusing place, so it can pay to find out whatever you can before you get there.
