Overweight air passengers – often the victims of ridicule and the butt of many jokes – were given something of a boost this week when Air France (part of the Air France-KLM group) released a new incentive that allows them to purchase additional seating for their own comfort.

As it stands, obese passengers can already purchase an extra seat with a 25% discount. As from February 1st 2010, this discount will be free as long as a flight isn’t full. Controversially, non-overweight passengers are also given the option for booking a second seat for 25% off the actual price, but they would not receive a discount if the plane turned out to be not full upon take off.

However, it was not all good news for overweight travelers. Air France also confirmed that passengers who are too large could be prevented from flying at the captain’s discretion. This is to ensure a plane can be evacuated within 90 seconds in case of an emergency.

Obviously safety comes first where air travel is concerned, but the issue of overweight passengers is one that has no easy answer, and with the world growing larger and larger, and obesity becoming more common, it is one that will be with us for some time to come…

The recent snowy weather has wrecked travel across Britain, with roads closed off, trains cancelled and airports brought to a standstill. Many flights from a multitude of different airports have been affected, including Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Aberdeen airport even had to shut twice because the heavy snowfalls caused such problems.

Of all the major airlines, Easyjet seems to have been hit with the most disruptions, with flights from Luton and Gatwick in particular delayed or cancelled. The airline has responded to the cancellations and backlog of passengers by stating that it may be forced to run flights on Christmas Day in order to help it catch up with the vast number of cancellations, and cabin crew are on standby, but in reality the possibility of this happening is very slim. Whilst alternative arrangements are being made, there airline refuses to promise that it will be able to get every single passenger home in time for Christmas. All in all, Easyjet have been forced to cancel over 150 flights, with Luton passengers told that flights from the airline will not run again until January.

However, it wasn’t just Easyjet who suffered problems, with all the other major airlines affected by the seasonal weather. Airlines at airports across the country are continuing to clear a backlog of flights, with many working around the clock to rectify the situation. Before you venture to the Airport you should check on-line or call your airline to make sure your flight is not delayed or cancelled once youre sure then Click Here to book your airport parking best deal.
